Directionally Challenged

It seems Malachi is taking after Ge's side of the family and does not quite know which way is out.  I went in for a 39 week check and Dr. J could not even tell I was dilated, Malachi was up so high.  He attributed it to my experienced uterus being stretched out (I'm told that guys don't like the word uterus but it's part of being a girl so you guys can skip this part) and possibly to a lot of fluid.

I haven't progressed but, of course, I'm still's just Malachi was so high he couldn't tell.

Despite Malachi forgetting which way is down, he is very healthy and, it seems, content to stay in side.  So, you still have until the 9th to guess when he'll come!  You can do that by leaving a comment here.

Next appointment, we'll be past due and have an ultrasound.

To say I'm disappointed is putting it mildly.  At least last week, we had a glimmer of hope that I would go on my own.  Now, not so much.  Still praying it will still happen though.

It's not that I'm uncomfortable or want him to come because I'm sick of being pregnant, it's just that I want to go on my own without pitocin and well, we're all quite in love with this little guy and would love to meet him!

  1. I know the feeling. Mine were so comfortable in there that they just didn't want to come out. They both took a little nudge (well, more than a nudge in Autumn's case) no matter how bad I wanted to go on my own too. The Dr. let me go 41 1/2 weeks with Avery. Hang in there!

  2. Ahhh, thank you so much Heather. I know I'm not the only one, but sometimes if feels like I am! And then you get the gawkers who wonder why in the world you would wait so long to have a baby. I appreciate your support! Plus, the younger he is on vacation the more fun to snuggle with :)!

  3. Hi, Abbie!! Hang in there!! My girls were both 10 days "late" and my last, Ryan, was 3 wks late. It was not fun waiting, but it really was the best to wait for him. He was huge, covered with vernix, and had a true knot in his cord, which would have caused huge decels and unpleasantness if we would've induced for real. But it was an easy labor! The longer you are able to wait it out, it will be worth it because your body and baby will be ready. But you're a smart mama and I know you'll do what you feel is best for you and the baby, whatever you choose. It should really be the parents' decision and not feeling bullied or scared into it. But you'll know what's right when it's time, and you have a great doctor that you know and trust, so that is wonderful too!! And really, it probably won't take much to get things going (if you decide to). It is sooooo hard to wait!!!!!! Ugh! Every day past 37 wks, really. So I feel ya! Come on, baby Malachi! (my brother's 9th baby was born last year and they named him Malachi!)

For what it's worth, my husband (who never ever cooks more than burgers and stakes and cereal) made the famous Eggplant Parm that puts people into labor. Scalini's, maybe? Well, the next morning.....contractions! Seriously! Also, I did homeopathic black and blue cohash (I had tried liquid herbals earlier in the week with little progress). They were amazing! You take them once an hour and I would immediately start having contractions. Also my midwife did more intense "massage" with primrose oil and excellent foot massage too. She had tried to strip my membranes earlier that week and the week before, but I was already 3-4 cm and nothing to strip.

So anyway, nothing will work till baby's ready to come, but that's what we did. We were beyond ready, so thankfully he was too! But seriously the labor was super putzy and slow and off and on. I even slept for a few hours at 7-8 cm! The last 2 hrs were work, but nothing different than before. And he ended up being 11lbs!!! Huge and happy and healthy! It felt like quite the accomplishment. His birth story is here, btw, if you're interested:

Anyway.....I'm super duper rambly tonight, sorry! Just wanted to comment and say Hang in there! I know it's so hard, esp with the early prodromal labor you've already had. That is so frustrating! You are doing so great and keeping busy as always. I'm so excited for your family to meet him, whenever that happens!
